leave a comment »

The term Aqeedah comes from Aqd, meaning knot, affirmed, deliberate. Its plural is Aqaaidh. From the shariah perspective, Aqeedah means “Certainty of belief and being contented” It is also defined it as “Set of beliefs tied in one’s heart and can never be untied” In simpler term, Set of beliefs in unseen things like belief in Allaah, angels, etc

Literal meaning of Tawheed: Unification or asserting oneness. Root word is Wahhada: to unite, to unify, to consolidate. This term doesn’t occur in Quran, but found in a few hadeeths

Q: Why do we need to study Tawheed? We all say Allah is one, and believe Him. Isn’t it?

A: People claim they believe in Allah, but commit shirk

(Surah 12. Yusuf ayat 106)
And Most of them believe not In Allâh except that they attribute partners unto Him [i.e. they are Mushrikûn -polytheists – see Verse 6: 121]

Definition of Tawheed by Imam As-Saffaraini (D: 1188): To singlify the worshipped in His Worship (Uluhiyah / Ibadah), while believing in the oneness of His essence (Ruboobiyah), His actions, and His attributes (Asma was-sifaat)
